Frequently Asked Questions

Getting Started

1. What is Fretuoso and how does it work?

Fretuoso is an iOS training app that helps you memorize note positions on fretted instruments. It tracks your performance and adapts your practice sessions so weak areas appear more often while strong areas are still reviewed.

2. Which instruments does Fretuoso support?

Fretuoso supports multiple guitars, bass variants, ukulele, banjo, and mandolin. You can review current instrument details in the documentation.

3. Is Fretuoso free to use?

Fretuoso is free to download and try. A Premium subscription unlocks full access and removes ads.

4. What devices are supported?

Fretuoso is designed for iPhone and iPad. The iPad version can also run on Apple Silicon Macs. For the latest OS and device requirements, check the App Store listing before installation.

5. Is an account required?

You can begin practicing without creating a separate account. Some Apple-linked features, such as iCloud sync and Premium restoration, depend on your Apple ID setup.

Features and Training

6. What training modes are available?

Fretuoso includes Training Mode, Game Mode, Staff Learning Mode, and Free Play Mode. Each mode is described in the documentation.

7. How does adaptive training improve learning?

The app records your accuracy by note and fretboard area. It then schedules more practice for less consistent areas, which helps improve recall speed and confidence.

8. Can I practice specific strings, frets, or scales?

Yes. You can target strings, fret ranges, and scale-focused practice. This helps you train for your current goals instead of drilling the entire fretboard every session.

9. Does Fretuoso support custom tunings?

Yes. In addition to standard tuning presets, you can configure custom tunings for instrument-specific practice workflows.

10. Does Fretuoso help with staff notation?

Yes. Staff Learning Mode connects notation with fretboard positions so you can improve note recognition across both systems.

11. Is there a left-handed mode?

Yes. Fretboard orientation and related options can be adjusted in settings for left-handed players.

Data, Sync, and Premium

12. Does Fretuoso work offline?

Most practice functionality works offline after installation. Internet access is still required for updates, some services, and support workflows.

13. How does iCloud sync work?

If iCloud is enabled on your device, Fretuoso can sync progress and preferences across compatible Apple devices signed in to the same account.

14. Can I use Premium on another device?

Yes. Sign in with the same Apple ID used to subscribe. If Premium does not unlock automatically, restore your Premium subscription in the app.

15. Is Fretuoso a subscription?

Fretuoso is free to download and offers a Premium subscription for full access without ads. Current pricing and subscription terms appear in the App Store.

16. Will I keep instruments I purchased in a previous version?

Yes. Any instruments you purchased in an earlier version remain unlocked forever. You can use a Premium subscription to unlock the remaining instruments if you choose.

17. Is there a one-time purchase alternative to Premium?

Yes. Fretuoso - Complete Edition includes all instruments and features for a single payment, with no subscription.
